The Cutest Cake Smash Theme Ideas

There's something to be said for planning ahead, especially when it comes to first-birthday cake smash sessions, but the overwhelm is real! There are so, so many fun, unique, and adorable cake smash themes, how are you supposed to choose? I can help. All of my one year and cake smash sessions include two sets, so you don't have to narrow your ideas ALL the way down to just one. And I've also compiled a handy list and a few examples of some of the very cutest cake smash ideas.

First of all, there's my all-time favorite set, which I call The Simplicity. It's your baby in a monochromatic setup, with a perfect little cake, and no distractions, so your little one is the star of the show. We can do this in any color you like, and I have so many darling little outfits in the studio closet! If you don't choose this for the cake smash setup, we'll likely do this for the non-cake, more traditional one-year photos set, before the real fun (and mess!) begins.

Next, we can add a subtle theme, with a banner or garland and a few perfect props. We can include any theme you can think of, including books, movies, TV shows, a favorite food or character, or just something you think is cute! Subtle not really your thing? We can also go all the way over-the-top!

And when it comes time for the cake smash, there are truly no rules... and who says it has to be a cake? We can do donuts, berries, Cheerios, tacos, spaghetti, anything baby loves or you think would be too cute for words.

I'm also completely delighted to make suggestions for a theme. I'll ask a few questions and send some example photos or just random props or other goodies I've seen, and we can create a theme and setup that's totally unique to you.
